Accessibility policy

The current version of the Web site of the Ministère de l'Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale (MESS) complies with most of the level-1 access guidelines under the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI). The upcoming version of the site will feature various improvements.

Images:

  • Text alternatives are provided for all significant images not specifically described in the text they illustrate.
  • The page layout does not include any hidden images.
  • Images are used only to convey information that cannot be provided via any other HTML alternative.

 Colours:

  • Information that is displayed in colour is also accessible without colour, by means of images or markups (borders, underlining, bold, fonts, etc.).
  • The level of contrast between background and foreground colours is sufficient for information to be legible for people who have problems perceiving colours or for black-and-white screen displays.
  • There is no screen flickering that could cause problems for people with photosensitive epilepsy.

Languages:

  • Foreign passages in texts are indicated by the appropriate HTML markups.
  • The main language of each page is indicated by the appropriate markups.

Structure and presentation:

  • To a considerable extent, the page layout of the MESS Web site is based on external templates. This means that information is displayed in a standardized way throughout the site.
  • The pages are structured with the help of logical HTML markups.

Tables:

  • Tables are using sparingly. As far as possible, they are reserved for data structuring.
  • Row and column headers are identified by the appropriate markups.

Scripts:

  • A substantial portion of the scripts used on the site are not essential for navigation or information consultation. Pages with scripts can be accessed in other ways and without JavaScript via the site map.

Resizing:

  • The page layout allows users to resize text by means of a tool integrated into each page or via their browser functions.

Navigation and links:

  • The site map is accessible from each page.
  • The navigation menus correspond to the information structure.
  • The search engine can be accessed via keyboard shortcut 4.
  • As far as possible, adjacent links are separated by printable characters to avoid confusion by help technologies.

On-line forms:

  • Each displayed element of a form is linked to a description.

If you notice a mistake or an omission on one of the pages or encounter problems, feel free to let us know by contacting the Webmaster at webmestre@mess.gouv.qc.caE-mail..
