A defaulting sponsor is a sponsor who fails to comply with his or her undertaking for the duration of the sponsorship agreement and, as a result, the sponsored person becomes a recipient of last-resort financial assistance.
Regardless of the reasons for defaulting on his or her undertaking, the sponsor must reimburse all benefits paid to the sponsored person.
