Recovery

The Ministère de l’Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale must ensure that last-resort financial assistance goes to the right individuals and families, and that this assistance reflects their real situation. The activities carried out for this purpose correspond to the sound management of public funds and ensure fair treatment for all.

For information on the terms governing reimbursements, see the section on the Centre de recouvrement.

To avoid having to repay a claim

The amount of financial assistance granted is based on the information you give the Department on your financial, family or other situation.

To avoid receiving a claim, we suggest that you:

  • Provide all the information and documents needed to determine your eligibility.
  • Provide complete, accurate information in your monthly and annual statements.
  • Immediately notify your local employment centre (CLE), preferably in writing, of any change in your family, financial or other situation.
  • Consult your CLE officer if you foresee any change in your situation or before making a decision likely to have an impact on the financial assistance you receive.

Notice of claim

If you receive recoverable financial assistance or an amount you should not have been granted, you must repay it as soon as you receive a notice of claim. A claim may also be issued for financial assistance received by a sponsored immigrant.

A notice of claim is sent to you indicating the grounds, period, nature and amount of the claim. If you need explanations or disagree with the claim, the first thing to do is to contact your CLE officer.
