Community action statistics

  • There are approximately 8,000 community organizations across Québec’s regions. Almost half of these organizations are part of the independent community action movement.
  • In the 2014-2015 fiscal year, the Government of Québec awarded $976.9 million to 5,000 community organizations through:
    • 15 ministries and 12 government instances; and
    • 68 financial assistance initiatives and programs.
  • The amount of $976.9 million was distributed as follows:
    • An amount of $584.3 million, or 59.8% of the total amount, was awarded to support the organizations’ overall missions. This type of financial support was granted to 4,304 community organizations (86.1% of the total).
    • An amount of $345.9 million, or 35.4% of the total amount, was awarded through service agreements and distributed among 1,715 community organizations.
    • An amount of 46.6 million, or 4.8% of the total amount, was devoted to specific projects. This amount was distributed among 1,384 projects.

On April 1, 2015, the average amount of financial support granted per organization for overall mission support was $135,762. The median amount was $83,926.

For 316 umbrella organizations only (local, regional and national), the average amount of financial support granted was $90,790, while the median amount was $70,000. The total amount awarded to umbrella organizations was $28.7 million.

The 3,988 other organizations that received support for their overall missions received an average amount of $139,327. The median amount awarded was $86,231. Together, these organizations received a total amount of $555.6 million.
